Teacher Training online - Our manuals

Africa (k)now adapted the program "Fun of Phonics" by Jody Spencer 2015 to Nursery and lower Primary school, because that's where teachers start teaching reading and writing. The Adaption can also be used for starting in Primary. This program was already evaluated in Uganda. Africa (k)now added as well the method of teaching syllables, because it enables teachers to teach local mother tongues, which are based on syllables as many child-centered activities and learning aids made out of local resources.

Learning through play
Young children are learning holistic. When they are playing, they are training skills, they are exploring their environment for getting to know how it is made, how it works. They pretend to do daily life activities to understand, what they see. They play role games to understand social contexts and to try out different behaviors. They do constructing games for developing an understanding of space. All in all that means, children are learning while playing. Ugandan government wants young children in nursery school to play. In this booklet you find ideas to create playing materials out of local resources, found in different places of Uganda.
